ATCN 2015 Policies and Procedures Manual

ATCN MANUAL 2013 EDITION OVERVIEW

The ATCN Executive Committee and the Society of Trauma Nurses are pleased to release the 2013 Edition of the ATCN Student and Faculty Manuals. Special thanks to the contributing authors and editors as well as ATLS® and the ACS COT for their support of ATCN. Both organizations and their leaderships were invaluable to this update and their time and commitment to educating the trauma community are greatly appreciated.

Beginning June 2013 ATCN course sites will be required to instruct with the 2013 Edition. All ATCN Instructors need to complete the following steps to obtain verification prior to teaching their first course in 2013 with the 2013 Edition of the student manual.

  1. Read the Compendium
  2. Complete the online update quiz
  3. Purchase the 2013 Edition of the ATCN Faculty Manual
  4. Purchase the 9th Edition of the ATLS Student Manual - www.facs.org/trauma/atls/index.html
  5. Connect with your Course Director for Skill Station revisions
  6. Provide your Course Director with a copy of the Certificate of Completion

Note: Current instructors are NOT required to attend an in person Faculty Course if all criteria (i.e. 4 courses taught in 4 years) have been met and the update is successfully completed. All NEW instructors are still required to attend an in person course and complete the instructor requirements.

How to Access the 2013 Compendium & Quiz

Login to access the 2013 update materials. Once logged in access to the compendium and quiz will be activated. Faculty Cards & Manuals

Institutions may purchase the 2013 manual edition on behalf of their instructors. It is recommended that faculty contact Course Directors prior to placing an order for the manual to determine if a copy has been ordered. If not, faculty may place an individual order using the Faculty Manual Order Form.

After successful completion of the quiz instructors will have the ability to download and print a Certificate of Completion including a new faculty card which will be valid for 4 years from the date the quiz is passed if all faculty criteria are met during the 4 years.

Faculty Update Completion Status Reports

The Overview and Compendium of Changes will be available on the ATCN web site (www.atcnnurses.org) for instructors to access and complete from May 2013 until December 2013. Throughout the year, ATCN will post update completion status reports to the ATCN website for course directors to access and verify if an instructor has finalized the update prior to confirming the faculty for a course. Only instructors who have completed the update test are eligible to teach the 2013 Edition.
